TESO - Set course together

Where technology and partnership set the course together.

TESO (Texels Eigen Stoomboot Onderneming) has been the lifeline between Texel and the mainland for over a century. Each year, the organization transports more than 2 million passengers and 900,000 vehicles between Den Helder and the island.

Safety always comes first at TESO. In addition, accessibility, affordability, and efficiency are crucial. The local community relies on the ferries to always run on schedule.

That’s why we have an excellent back-office system developed by Betabit to handle all these major transport flows quickly and efficiently.”

— Mario Prak - CEO, TESO

The system forms the core of TESO’s operations. From ticket processing and license plate registration to shareholder management and meeting facilitation, everything runs within one integrated platform.

Custom-built on Azure

TESO’s back office is not a standard application: it integrates with barriers, cash registers, and license plate recognition and must operate flawlessly sixteen hours a day. Developing such a system requires a unique, tailor-made solution. That’s why TESO chose Betabit, as a specialist in business-critical software built on Microsoft Azure.

We were looking for a partner that truly understands our DNA. Not just a supplier, but a real partner. Betabit is very approachable, proactive, and quick to respond. That makes collaboration easy.”

— Eric Blaauw - IT Manager, TESO

The collaboration started with a business sprint: all requirements were defined in a blueprint, laying the foundation for a new system that had to remain stable, even during the transition. After all, the ferries must keep sailing.

The migration went flawlessly, despite the move from an on-premise environment to Azure. Only the vital processes, such as access gates and cash registers, still run locally, ensuring they are never offline.

The result is a modern, stable, and secure system that provides TESO with a solid foundation to continue growing in the years ahead. And the collaboration continues.

The system runs stably, but it’s never finished. Betabit keeps thinking ahead about the next phase, ensuring that this platform will last another fifteen years. We continue to build together toward a bright future.
